Creating a layer is as simple as:ĬGColorRef bgColor = CGColorCreateGenericGray ( 0.0, 0.25 ) Instead of requiring a view to implement all of the logic to manage abstract "layer-like" objects that are composited onto the screen, Core Animation provides actual on-screen layers that do all of the basics for you. The framework also provides a vastly simplified graphics model. Core Animation can automatically take advantage of a multi-core Mac because the layer tree is rendered on a separate thread. This, by the way, is part of the reason the iPhone UI is so incredibly fast on some relatively modest hardware. One element of it is the raw parallel processing power of modern graphics cards, and another is the fact that Core Animation can cache the contents of a CALayer on the card so that your code doesn't need to constantly redraw it. It probably wouldn't be practical to try the same with NSView instances. You can have thousands of CALayers on the screen at the same time without breaking a sweat. This is a really versatile framework with huge performance potential. More times than I can count, I've gotten a puzzled look followed by the now-familiar " but I'm not really animating anything" response.Īnimation is the most significant obstacle that Core Animation tackles, but it's far from being the only benefit. Sorry if this post is inappropriate for r/apple, but it really just excites me to see iPad gain new software that grows the platform.Often when I'm talking to somebody about how they're designing their app, I suggest they use Core Animation to implement the user interface. It’s cheap at 40% off! Really cant wait to hear what other iPad professionals out there think about it. It supports export in 4K, GIF, PNG sequence, and even to swift playgrounds. This app is the grown up version of that. The devs are really cool and started off making animating tools for kids so they can make their own storybooks. The app is featured in the what’s new section for now. Just thought people who dont check the App Store often would benefit from seeing this. Pros should check it out and post links to animations you create here. This app reminds me of old school animation tools that made the internet popular, Flash videos of old, and new GIFs too. This looks great and removes another roadblock that keep people latched to traditional computers. It’s iOS 11 only and restricted to the ipad models running that OS. Thier website has great examples worth viewing. Create GIFs and videos using powerful animation tools.
